On Sunday I realised I'd been married for forty years (to the same person!). I thought it might be appropriate to play a record that was in the Top Thirty on 21st August 1971. I looked up the chart for that day and was reminded of such forgettable delights as CHIRPY CHIRPY CHEEP CHEEP by Middle Of The Road and TOM-TOM TURNAROUND by New World.
But then I noticed two records that we'd both liked: SOLDIER BLUE by Buffy St. Marie and BANGLA DESH by George Harrison. Which to play? The first was the theme song for a film about an extremely bloody massacre and the second was about a famine.
Thinking that the massacre was somehow less appropriate for a wedding anniversary, I opted for BANGLA DESH.
Who says romance is dead?
