Nice Service

Returning home recently from Nice we decided to have lunch at the airport. We thought it wise to get Passport Control and Security out of the way first, only to find that, once through, there was no restaurant and we had to make do with a rather uninspired snack bar with a very long queue.

One gets used to being charged exorbitant prices at airports but 23 euros for two sandwiches and two soft drinks seemed unusually steep, even if served with a grin and a flourish. We weren’t given a receipt.

Then we discovered that a strike meant a five-hour delay for our flight. To pass some time I returned to the snack bar to check on the prices. Our bill should’ve been 18 euros. I saw the same attendant, still grinning and flourishing, but now handing out receipts. I realised we’d been done but, without a receipt, was powerless.

Back home we reckoned we probably weren’t the only travellers being ripped off so decided to act – but without much hope. We sent details to Nice airport and were frankly surprised to get a response. Our complaint was forwarded to the catering firm who took the matter up with staff. And we were promised a bank transfer refund of the full 23 euros. Impressive indeed.

Unfortunately there were difficulties with the transfer and we were sent a cheque for 23 euros. Once RBS got their hands on this they managed to reduce our refund to £10.91. Well, the bonuses must come from somewhere!

So, we reckon that now we’ve been ripped off twice, but must report that Nice airport came up trumps.
