Fun In Acapulco

More and more, our daily news seems to have become obsessed with anniversaries. Topics range from the recording of the Beatles' first LP (50 years ago) to the invasion of Iraq (10 years ago). As time goes on, there will be evermore anniversaries to mark; this has caused someone to comment that soon the news will consist entirely of anniversaries!

In early 1963, exactly 50 years ago, Elvis Presley was at work on a film called Fun in Acapulco (it is usually omitted from any history of the cinema, but it does feature a lively performance of Bossa Nova Baby). I saw the film at the Ritz cinema, in Edinburgh's Rodney Street. It wasn't very busy.

Anyway, below is a photograph of a young Elvis fan (probably taken in a photo booth in Waverley Station in the very early 1960s).

Happy anniversaries!
