Stockbridge Society

Edinburgh's Stockbridge area has been relentlessly upwardly mobile since the slum clearance of the 1950s and 1960s. Back then there was no chance of encountering the following little exchange I overheard yesterday in Henri's café and delicatessen:

Woman: Have you anything gluten-free?
Waiter: Only the macaroons.
Woman: Are they made on the premises?
Waiter: No. In Paris.

  1. It's easy to join in the sentiment with you. Too easy! Since as we get older we are able to enjoy somewhat related past memories/experiences. For example, I do enjoy Gravadlax from Loch Fyne and peat smoked trout from North Just. Should I feel guilty? Keith Dyson.
