Last week, in search of a little warmth, we were wandering through the Old Town of Villefranche-
sur-Mer. Just before we reached the seafront we found ourselves outside the Chapelle Saint-Pierre, a tiny Romanesque building, dating from the 14th century. But the interior was not like any other church or chapel as, in 1957, Jean Cocteau had painted murals on every part of the walls and ceiling. (The chapel had previously been used by fishermen to store their nets.)
The detail above is inspired by the gipsy population - the guitarist is the nephew of the flamenco guitarist Manitas de Plata and the young dancer is his granddaughter.
It was never like this at St Luke's in Comely Bank.
